George W. Bush arrived in India on late 1st evening, but much preceded his visit. For example the media hype over the 'historic visit' and all at pains to prepare the ground for a safe and successful state visit. On the other hand, left parties, Muslim organizations and various people's fronts were gathering forces to protest against the visit.

As you are aware that the International Financial Institutions (IFIs) like the World Bank (WB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have rapidly penetrated into India's North East. This trend, which is particularly visible since 2001, will have long-term consequences on the many communities, their political aspirations, and to the environment. It is also obvious that these institutions with their clearly spelt out neo-liberal agenda and marketised formulations are here to further their goals of liberalization, privatization and globalization. What is particularly troubling is that there has been no opportunity provided to publicly discuss their entry and that none of our elected members took care to even debate in their respective Assemblies and other forums.

WSF 2006 Karachi will be held simultaneously in a cluster of venues between March 24th and 29th, 2006 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, Karachi, which includes KMC sports complex and adjoining grounds. The opening plenary and closing plenary will be held in People's Stadium.
