Planning meeting:Mobilising Mumbai against the WTO Hong Kong Ministerial PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 29 November 2005
Planning meeting on December 2 (FRIDAY) 2005. Time: 4 pm onwards.
Venue: BHUPESH GUPTA BHAVAN, Worli, Mumbai
Dear Friends,
The 6th Ministerial Meeting of the WTO will be held in Hong Kong from December 13-18, 2005. The state of play in the current negotiations indicate that developing countries will be forced to make damaging concessions in the area of agriculture, industry and services.

Mobilisations by farmers, workers and other groups are on in different parts of the country to ensure that the Indian government does not capitulate and is held accountable for its actions.

In Maharastra there are separate, but interlinked, initiatives on the issue of agriculture and services. An anti-GATS convention was held in Mumbai on 16 November 2005 in which over 200 people participated. A big convention on WTO and agriculture will take place in Pune on December 4 2005.

December 13 2005 – the day when the ministerial begins in Hong Kong - has been declared as the national day of protest against the WTO. We need to strategise and decide on actions for this day in the city of Mumbai
