Quit WTO - Destroy WTO, 8th, 9th December 2005

Dear friend/comrade,

We all are experiencing anti-people and anti-national onslaught of imperialist globalization for last fifteen years. It was opposed and resisted in India and all over world from the very beginning. In last few years we are party and witness to rising tides of resistance and struggle all over the world.

During last few month many organization had discussed a process of building up a joint struggle against imperialist globalization. In this process two meetings were held at Gandhi Peace Foundation, Delhi, on 18th September and 18th October.

Organizations, which participated in the process and meetings, are --

(11) National Campaign Committee for Rural Workers (NCCRW) (12) Kam Ka Adhikar Abhiyan Samiti (13) United Worker's Federation (Tamilnadu) (14) Swaraj Suraksha Samiti (15) Vidyarthi Yuvjan Sabha (16) Adivasi Mukti Sangathan (17) Jagrit Adivasi Dalit Sangathan (18) Shramik-Adivasi Sangathan (19) People's Front (20) Samajik Nyaya Morcha (21) Ambedkar Student's Organization (22) Ekta Parishad.

Main point that emerged out of the consultations and meetings are

1. Globalization of present times is a new form of capitalism- imperialism.
2. Central and state governments of India under the leadership of different political parties have submitted to the forces of globalization totally.
3. There is a need for an organized effective and sustained campaign against the 'globalization'. For this there is a need for a better co-ordination and greater solidarity amongst the ongoing resistance and struggle against 'globalization'. But at the same it was also felt that no new campaign/front/forum should be launched in a hurry. Priority should be on a broadest possible intense consultation. Only after that, forms of alliance and co-ordination may be decided.
4. This process of co-ordination must be broad and inclusive but participating organizations should be of the view that,
 (a) India must quit WTO and WTO must be ended.
 (b) Important political parties, which are party of government in any of the
     States should be kept out of the process of the co-ordination.

National Convention at Delhi on 8th, 9th December 2005 In the context of forthcoming December meeting of WTO in Hong Kong many people's organizations/movements/alliances are organizing anti-globalization campaigns. We have also decided to organize a National Convention at Delhi on 8th, 9th December to accelerate the process of the joint struggle.

(a) You are requested to involve and ensure participation of as many organizations as   possible. You invite them on your own. But keep us informed about results of your efforts periodically.
(b) Delhi Convention will be a 'delegates' convention. Each organization may send up to five delegates.
(c) Main issues for discussion at Delhi Convention would be
 (i) Why is it necessary to quit WTO?
 (ii) Alternatives to WTO and Globalization.
 (iii) Forms of resistance against 'globalization'.
 (iv) Co-ordination and solidarity amongst anti-globalization struggle.
 (v) Future Programmes.
 
(d) All organizations are requested to prepare written notes/papers on these issues, to ensure a more focused and fruitful exchange of ideas. It will be still better if you bring sufficient copies of your material for distribution. 

Some information to participants: -

(1) All participant organization will pay minimum Rs. 500 as a delegate fee.
(2) Local organizing committee will make arrangements for lodging. Lodging arrangements will be simple mattresses on the floor in a big hall. But delegates will have to pay for food that will be made available through food stalls at / near convention venue.
(3) Delhi will be cold in December. You are requested to brings sufficient woolen cloths and quilts etc.
