Large Peasants Mobilisation for the WTO ministerial conference MEDIA ADVISORY 4 December 2005 The international peasant movement La Via Campesina will be protesting against liberalisation of agriculture and promote alternative policies during the WTO ministerial conference in Hong Kong from December 10 to 19 2005.
Around 2000 peasants from all over the world are expected to take part in protests and activities, including a large rally on December 13 and a Women Peasants Forum on December 15. There will be farmers' delegations coming from Korea, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, India, United States, Canada, France, Spain, Brazil, Honduras, Mexico, Bangladesh, Timor Leste, Malaysia, Nepal, Vietnam, Madagascar, Mozambique, Mali, Norway, Dominica Republic, Nicaragua At the same time, activities will be organised in various countries by organisations members of La Via Campesina (Korea, Indonesia).

Via Campesina is an international movement that co-ordinates movements and organizations of peasants, small and medium-sized producers, peasants, small craft-workers indigenous communities and agricultural workers and defends the basic interests of these sectors. It is an autonomous, pluralist movement, independent of any political, economic, or other type of affiliation. It is composed of national and regional representative organizations, indigenous communities and agricultural workers.
