Dear friends (in Mumbai and everywhere else in India!)
For the first time since the WSF 2004 in Mumbai the WSF India Working Committee and General Council meetings are to be held in Mumbai.
The International Council has given a call for mobilisation on January 26th 2008. Do we see an opportunity in the 2008 call? Or do we decide not to participate?
Many questions have come up which require to be discussed and debated.
For instance: What is happening to the WSF process worldwide (in South
America, Europe, Africa)? Has it helped and will it in future help
peoples struggles? Has the WSF process been useful in building broader
alliances in India? Has the Indian process shrunk? Is it useful to
revive and renew it? Can we contribute to an Asian process? The
suggested agenda for the 10-11th meetings includes an engagement with
these questions, although it is yet to be finalised. Please send
suggestions for the agenda.
The discussions in the Mumbai meeting will hopefully be not just on
future or past events but on the concepts of the WSF as well. It will
be an opportunity for all of us in India to review the reasons why we
were involved in the WSF process, its strengths and weaknesses and
whether we see a potential in continuing to be part of it. The meeting
is also an opportunity for the numerous groups in Mumbai, which have
been part of the WSF process and event in 2004, to meet again and
discuss the future of the WSF process.
Meanwhile we earnestly hope that all organisations which have been part
of the process will take the trouble to send representatives to the
meeting, not just one or two people from each state. We particularly
request Mumbai based organisations to attend and contribute to the
discussions.
We will let you know about accommodation availability soon. But do let us know if you need rooms.
From
A few of us in Mumbai who took the responsibility for the logistics of this meeting:
Nandita Shah, Madhusree Dutta, P K Das, Datta Iswalkar, Deepika Singh, Meena Menon.
