How will the emergence of India and China impact the creation of an
Asian community? What are the potential challenges and consequences of
developing an Asian community given current bilateral and multilateral
relations between China, India and the rest of Asia? How will the
resultant intra-Asian dynamics influence the geo-economic and
geo-political world order? Dr. Vishakha N. Desai, President of Asia
Society, will address these questions both in the context of historical
and cultural ties, and current political and economic relations among
countries in the region.
Dr. Vishakha N. Desai was appointed President of Asia Society in 2004.
Prior to her appointment as President she served as Asia Society's
Senior Vice President and Director of the Museum and Cultural Programs.
She also taught at the University of Massachusetts, Boston University
and Columbia University. Dr. Desai holds a B.A. in Political Science
from Bombay University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Asian Art History from
the University of Michigan.
