Socio Economic Monitor November 2008: Migration PDF Print E-mail
For the first three quarters of 2008, over one million Filipinos were deployed abroad, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). The number rose by 26% compared to the same period last year, with 798,731 Filipinos leaving to work abroad. Remittances for this period (January-September 2008) reached $12 Billion, marking an increase from the $10 Billion level for the same period last year. Almost $ 7 Billion of total remittances from January to September came from Filipinos in the Americas. In contrast, remittances from Asia, where most Overseas Filipino Workers are deployed, amounted to $ 1.3 Billion.
